Flatbed trailers for sale

A flatbed trailer is an open-deck trailer, with no walls or roof, that loads from every side. It is the trailer for heavy equipment, vehicles and long materials. At Martin Remorques, we sell N&N flatbeds, built in Québec, from 7 × 16 ft to 7 × 22 ft.

What is a flatbed trailer used for?

Contractors load their compact machinery on it: mini excavator, loader, tractor, lift or plate compactor. It also carries cars, ATVs and side-by-sides, lumber, steel, beams and pallets, which can be loaded from the side with a forklift.

With no high sides, the load is easy to secure with straps or chains, and a beavertail with ramps lets you drive equipment on.

N&N flatbeds

Our N&N flatbeds have a hemlock floor that gives good grip to tires and tracks. The galvanized 7 × 16 ft has a 14 ft flat deck and a 2 ft beavertail, with slide-in ramps stored under the floor.

The 22 ft C8 Iron, on three 7,000 lb axles with an 8 in C-channel frame, is built for heavy machinery. Its stand-up ramps are spring-assisted and lift with little effort.

Choosing the right flatbed length

Choose the length for your longest load, leaving room to spread the weight over the axles. A 16 ft deck suits a compact tractor, a side-by-side or materials; a 20 to 22 ft deck takes a mini excavator with its attachments, two recreational vehicles or long beams.

Weight matters as much as length: choose axles rated above the weight of your machine and its attachments. Our advisors check the trailer’s capacity and your vehicle’s with you.

Flatbed capacity and axles

A trailer’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is its maximum loaded weight. Payload is what is left once you subtract the weight of the trailer itself. A flatbed with two 5,200 lb axles suits vehicles, compact tractors and materials. With 7,000 or 8,000 lb axles, or three axles, you move up to machinery: mini excavator, compact loader or lift.

Our N&N flatbeds range from two 5,200 lb axles on the 7 × 16 and 7 × 20 ft to two 8,000 lb axles on the 7 × 22 ft HD and three 7,000 lb axles on the C8 Iron. Weigh your machine with its buckets and attachments, and keep a margin under the payload.

Ramps, beavertail and tie-downs

The beavertail lowers the back of the deck to reduce the loading angle. Slide-in ramps store under the floor, while spring-assisted stand-up ramps stay at the rear, ready to use.

Stake pockets with a tie-down rail and welded D-rings let you secure the load right where you need to, and a box on the tongue keeps straps and chains within reach.

Tie-down, brakes and inspection

Secure machinery at all four corners with chains and binders, with the bucket or blade lowered onto the deck. Place the weight slightly ahead of the axles so that about 10 to 15% of the total weight rests on the hitch. The stake pockets and welded D-rings on our flatbeds give you anchor points all over the deck.

Our N&N flatbeds have electric brakes. A flatbed with a GVWR of 4,500 kg or more is a heavy vehicle: periodic mechanical inspection, with some exceptions based on use, a stop at roadside inspection stations when the lights flash and, for a business, registration with the Commission des transports du Québec.

Flatbed care

Replace a hemlock board as soon as it splits or rots: a sound floor keeps its grip and spreads the load. Grease the bearings once a year, have the brakes checked, and rinse the frame in spring to remove salt. Check the ramp springs and pins before the season.

Our workshop replaces flatbed floors, brakes, bearings and lighting, and our parts department orders chains, binders, winches and tie-down rails.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your questions,
our answers

Ask a question
What is the difference between a flatbed and a tilt trailer?

A flatbed keeps a fixed deck: you load with ramps or a beavertail. On a tilt trailer, the whole deck tilts to the ground on a hydraulic cylinder, so there are no ramps and the slope is gentler for low equipment.

Can I haul a mini excavator on a flatbed?

Yes, it is the most common use. Choose a flatbed whose axles are rated above the weight of the machine and its buckets, with a beavertail and ramps suited to tracks. The 22 ft C8 Iron, on three 7,000 lb axles, is built for this kind of work.

Can a flatbed haul a car?

Yes, if the width between the fenders fits the car. Several of our N&N flatbeds offer 82 in between the fenders. For a very low car, a tilt trailer makes loading easier.

Wood or steel deck?

A wood deck, like the hemlock on our N&N flatbeds, gives good grip to tires and tracks, absorbs impacts and can be repaired board by board. A steel deck lasts longer under steel tracks, but it is more slippery when wet and heavier.

Does my flatbed need an inspection?

Yes if its GVWR is 4,500 kg or more: it is then a heavy vehicle and must pass periodic mechanical inspection, with some exceptions based on use. If it is used for your business, you must also be registered with the Commission des transports du Québec.

Can I finance a flatbed?

Yes. Martin Remorques works with National Bank of Canada for bank financing and with Crédit-Bail CLÉ for business leasing. We prepare the application with you; the institution approves it and sets the rate.
