Dump trailers for sale
A dump trailer has a steel box that a hydraulic cylinder lifts to empty the load in one go, no shovel needed. At Martin Remorques, we sell N&N dump trailers, built in Québec, from 6 × 12 ft to 7 × 16 ft.

What is a dump trailer used for?
It is the work trailer of excavation, landscaping, roofing and construction contractors. It hauls soil, gravel, stone, sand, asphalt, mulch and job site debris, then unloads it exactly where you want it in seconds.
Owners of large properties and farms also use it for upkeep, clean-up and seasonal work. A box that empties itself saves hours of shovelling.
N&N dump trailers
The Torrent is N&N’s 7 ft wide dump trailer: 11-gauge galvanized steel box, 4 × 6 in tube frame, telescopic cylinder and slide-in ramps. It comes in 7 × 12 and 7 × 16 ft, with 7,000 to 10,000 lb axles depending on the configuration, and several have the dual-action rear gate.
The 6 × 12 ft Torrent HD is fully galvanized, with two 7,500 lb axles and a 7-ton telescopic cylinder. The 7 × 12 ft Storm, with 18 in sides, suits lighter jobs and offers the hydraulic jack with lithium battery option.
Choosing the right dump trailer
Choose the box size for the volume you haul, and the axle rating for the weight: gravel and stone weigh far more than mulch or debris. A 6 × 12 ft box suits residential work; a 7 × 16 ft with heavier axles is built for contractors who haul heavy every day.
Check your truck’s towing capacity as well. Our advisors help you choose the right combination of box, axles and cylinder for your work and your vehicle.
Box volume and load weight
A dump box fills up by weight long before it fills up by volume. The box of a 7 × 12 ft trailer with 23 in sides holds about 6 cubic yards. Filled with gravel, which weighs about 2,800 lb per yard, it would weigh close to 17,000 lb, far more than its axles can carry.
For stone, gravel, sand or wet soil, you fill the box a third to half full. Mulch, wood chips and light debris can fill it. That is why you choose the axles for the heaviest material you haul, and the box length for the bulkiest.
Equipment worth a look
The dual-action rear gate swings open like a barn door to empty the box, or pivots from the top to spread material as you drive. Slide-in ramps let you load a plate compactor or small wheeled equipment, and the roll tarp covers the load on the road.
The telescopic cylinder lifts the box to a steep angle so it empties completely, and the smart charger keeps the hydraulic system’s battery ready for the next job.
Brakes, inspection and the CTQ register
A loaded dump trailer always weighs more than 1,300 kg, so it needs brakes on all its load-bearing wheels. Our Torrent trailers have electric brakes, operated by a brake controller in the towing vehicle. We order Curt, Tekonsha and Hopkins brake controllers.
With two axles of 7,000 lb or more, a dump trailer generally has a GVWR of 4,500 kg or more: it is a heavy vehicle. It must pass periodic mechanical inspection, with some exceptions based on use, and you must stop at roadside inspection stations when the lights flash. If it is used for your business, you also need to be listed in the Commission des transports du Québec register of heavy vehicle owners and operators. The Storm with 5,200 lb axles comes in a version without mandatory inspection.
Dump trailer care
Keep the battery charged with the smart charger, check the hydraulic oil level and the hoses, and grease the box and rear gate pivots. After hauling asphalt, salt or clay soil, rinse the box so nothing sticks to the floor. Once a year, have the bearings, brakes and suspension inspected.
Our workshop maintains and repairs dump trailers, including the hydraulic system, wiring and brakes, and our parts department orders batteries, tarps and replacement parts.

What is the difference between a telescopic and a scissor hoist?
A telescopic cylinder pushes the box from the front and lifts it higher, so it empties more completely. A scissor hoist sits under the box. The N&N dump trailers we sell have a 7- or 12-ton telescopic cylinder.
Which dump trailer should I choose for gravel or stone?
For heavy materials, choose stronger axles rather than a bigger box: a box full of stone quickly reaches a small trailer’s capacity. Our 7 × 16 ft Torrents have 7,000 to 10,000 lb axles, depending on the configuration.
Can a dump trailer carry equipment?
Yes. The Torrent’s slide-in ramps let you load small wheeled equipment, like a plate compactor or a mower, and the D-rings welded to the floor are there to tie it down.
Does a dump trailer need an inspection?
Yes if its GVWR is 4,500 kg or more, which is the case for most dump trailers with two axles of 7,000 lb or more: it must pass periodic mechanical inspection, with some exceptions based on use. The Storm comes in a version without mandatory inspection.
How much gravel can a dump trailer carry?
Gravel weighs about 2,800 lb per cubic yard, so you fill the box a third to half full, depending on the axle rating. Tell us what you haul and we will give you the payload of the trailer you choose.
What truck do I need to tow a dump trailer?
A loaded dump trailer is heavy. For a loaded 7 × 14 or 7 × 16 ft trailer, you are generally looking at a three-quarter-ton or one-ton pickup. Your truck’s towing capacity and allowed hitch weight must exceed the actual weight of the load.
Can a business lease a dump trailer?
Yes. Businesses can lease their dump trailer through a Crédit-Bail CLÉ commercial lease, or finance it with a National Bank of Canada loan. Martin Remorques prepares the application with you; the institution approves it and sets the terms.
