ATV trailers

An ATV trailer carries one or more all-terrain vehicles or side-by-sides to the trail, the cottage or the hunting camp. It can be open, for simplicity and price, or enclosed, to protect the vehicle and keep it locked up. At Martin Remorques, you will find both.

Open or enclosed trailer for an ATV?

A utility trailer with a rear ramp is the simple, affordable option for an ATV: light and easy to hitch, it loads by driving on. A longer flatbed takes two ATVs or a side-by-side.

An enclosed trailer with a ramp door, like Ideal Cargo’s Sport Zone, protects the vehicle from mud, rain, snow and salt, and doubles as a locked shed between outings. Its floor anchors hold the ATV during the trip.

Types of ATV trailers

A utility trailer with a rear ramp is the simplest: an ATV drives on and straps to the rings. A side-load trailer has ramps on the side, so you load two ATVs side by side without backing them up. A longer flatbed takes a side-by-side or several ATVs, and an enclosed trailer with a ramp door protects them and keeps them locked up.

Tell us about your vehicles and your trips: we will suggest the trailer that fits, in stock or on order.

Choosing the right ATV trailer size

Measure your ATV or side-by-side’s width and length, and add room to load, move around and store gear: helmets, fuel cans and tools. A side-by-side needs more width than an ATV.

For a single ATV, a 6 × 12 ft Sport Zone enclosed trailer often does the job; for a side-by-side or two ATVs one behind the other, look at trailers 7 ft wide and 12 ft or longer. We check your vehicles’ measurements with you.

ATV and side-by-side sizes and weights

An ATV is about 4 ft wide and weighs 250 to 400 kg. A side-by-side is 50 to 64 in wide depending on the model and weighs 500 to more than 800 kg. Add the gear: storage box, winch, snow plow, fuel cans and helmets.

In a 7 × 14 ft enclosed trailer, two ATVs usually fit one behind the other. A side-by-side needs a trailer at least 7 ft wide, often 14 ft long or more, with a ramp strong enough for its weight. The ramp door of our 6 × 12 and 7 × 12 ft Sport Zone trailers is rated for 2,000 lb: perfect for an ATV.

Loading and securing an ATV

Ride the ATV on slowly, straight up the ramp, and position it to keep a little more weight ahead of the trailer axles. Strap it by the frame or the tie-down points provided, never by the plastic racks, with four straps pulling outward. The 5,000 lb floor anchors in our enclosed trailers are made for this.

An enclosed trailer loaded with a side-by-side quickly goes over 1,300 kg, and then it needs brakes on all its load-bearing wheels. We help you choose the trailer, the straps and, if needed, the brake controller that goes with it.

ATV trailers at Martin Remorques

Ideal Cargo Sport Zone enclosed trailers, in 6 × 12 and 7 × 12 ft, have a 2,000 lb rear ramp door, a side door and four 5,000 lb floor anchors. The 7 × 12 ft offers 80 in of interior height and a 74 in door. Their galvanized structure has a lifetime corrosion warranty, and their R5 insulated walls limit condensation when the ATV comes in wet.

For a tighter budget, all our galvanized Laroche utility trailers have a rear ramp. The 66 in × 10 ft, on two 2,000 lb axles, takes an ATV with its gear.

A trailer to tow behind your ATV

An ATV trailer can also be the small trailer the ATV tows itself on the trail, at the cottage or in the woodlot. Weberlane, a brand we sell, makes three: the single-axle ATV340 and ATV350, and the tandem-axle ATV360T, steadier with heavy loads.

Their 20 in deep sheet steel box dumps by gravity to empty firewood, soil or rocks, and capacity ranges from 1,200 lb on the single-axle models to 1,500 lb on the ATV360T. They hitch to a 2 in ball, or to a draw pin with the clevis option.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your questions,
our answers

Ask a question
Which trailer should I choose for a side-by-side?

A side-by-side is wider and heavier than an ATV. Choose a trailer at least 7 ft wide with a sturdy ramp, open or enclosed depending on whether you want to protect the vehicle.

Is an enclosed trailer worth it for an ATV?

If you travel often, in winter or over long distances, yes: the ATV stays clean, protected from salt and locked up, and the trailer doubles as gear storage.

Do you have ATV trailers in stock?

Yes: our Sport Zone enclosed trailers with a ramp door, our Laroche utility trailers with a rear ramp and our N&N flatbeds can all haul an ATV. Call us to see which ones are on the lot right now.

How many ATVs fit in a 7 × 14 ft trailer?

Two ATVs usually fit one behind the other in a 7 × 14 ft enclosed trailer, with room for gear. Measure your ATVs with their accessories to be sure.

Does an ATV trailer need brakes?

Only if it weighs 1,300 kg or more with its load, or more than half the weight of the towing vehicle. A small utility trailer with one ATV often stays under that limit; an enclosed trailer with a side-by-side often goes over.

Do you have trailers to tow behind an ATV?

Yes. We sell Weberlane ATV trailers: the ATV340, ATV350 and ATV360T, with a gravity dump box and 1,200 to 1,500 lb of capacity.
