Enclosed trailers for sale

An enclosed trailer is a trailer with a covered, lockable box: your gear travels and stays parked dry, safe from theft and the weather. At Martin Remorques in Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare, we sell Ideal Cargo Work Zone and Sport Zone enclosed trailers, from 5 × 8 ft to 8.5 × 16 ft.

What is an enclosed trailer used for?

It is the trailer of contractors, businesses and families. Builders, electricians, plumbers and landscapers use it as a mobile workshop: tools stay organized and ready for the job site, and the trailer locks up at night. Businesses haul their goods under cover, and families use it to move or to store equipment from one season to the next.

With a ramp door, an enclosed trailer is also the best way to haul an ATV, snowmobile, motorcycle or golf cart: the vehicle travels protected from rain, snow and road salt.

Work Zone or Sport Zone: which one?

Ideal Cargo’s Work Zone is the enclosed work trailer. It has double rear doors that open across the full width and a side door to reach gear stored up front. Several of our Work Zones have 80 or 86 in of interior height, and every one in stock has R5 insulation and a white interior that brightens the space.

The Sport Zone is designed for recreational vehicles. Its rear door folds down into a ramp and its floor anchors hold an ATV, snowmobile or motorcycle securely. It keeps the Work Zone’s side door and insulation.

An enclosed trailer built to last

Ideal Cargo EVO CORE enclosed trailers are built in Saint-Valère, in Centre-du-Québec. The structure is hot-dip galvanized steel, and the walls and roof are recycled biocomposite panels clad in aluminum. The panels insulate the trailer (R5) and make it about 10% lighter than a conventional enclosed trailer.

A lighter trailer leaves more payload for your gear with the same vehicle. Ideal Cargo covers the galvanized structure against corrosion for life, for the original buyer, and offers a 10-year structural warranty: an enclosed trailer that holds its value after many winters on our roads.

Choosing the right enclosed trailer size

The right size depends on what you haul. A 5 × 8 or 6 × 12 ft trailer is enough for tools, a small move or an ATV. A 7 ft wide trailer, 12 to 16 ft long, is a very versatile size for a mobile workshop or recreational vehicles. An 8.5 ft wide trailer gives the most space for big jobs and wider vehicles.

Think about your vehicle too: a bigger enclosed trailer is heavier and catches more wind. Our advisors check your vehicle’s towing capacity with you and help you pick the right size.

Axles, brakes and inspection

Our enclosed trailers ride on one 3,500 lb axle for the 5 × 8 ft, and on two 3,500 or 5,200 lb axles for the 6 to 8.5 ft wide sizes. Drop axles lower the floor: the ramp is less steep and you get more interior height for the same overall height.

In Québec, a trailer that weighs 1,300 kg or more with its load, or more than half the weight of the vehicle towing it, must have brakes on all its load-bearing wheels. A trailer with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 4,500 kg or more is a heavy vehicle and needs periodic mechanical inspection. Several of our 7 to 8.5 ft enclosed trailers come in a version without mandatory inspection.

Options that make a difference

Extra interior height lets you stand up to work and load tall items. Insulation limits condensation, the LED dome light and loading light make evening work easier, and side vents keep the air dry.

For contractors, the contractor package adds a ladder, ladder racks and a walkway. Our workshop also installs the equipment you need to fit out the trailer for your trade.

Caring for your enclosed trailer

Before every trip, check the lights, tire pressure, coupler latch and safety chains. Once a year, have the bearings, brakes and suspension inspected. After winter, wash the trailer with fresh water, underside included, to remove salt and calcium, and check the door and roof seals to keep the inside dry.

Our workshop maintains and repairs enclosed trailers and installs equipment to fit out the interior. Our parts and accessories department orders the lighting, locks, wheels, tires and hitch parts you need.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your questions,
our answers

Ask a question
What is the difference between an enclosed trailer and a utility trailer?

An enclosed trailer has walls, a roof and lockable doors, so the load travels protected from the weather and theft. A utility trailer is open, lighter and simpler, ideal for materials, soil or garden equipment.

Can I haul an ATV or a snowmobile in an enclosed trailer?

Yes. Choose an enclosed trailer with a ramp door, like the Sport Zone, to drive the vehicle in, and floor anchors to tie it down. We help you choose the right width for your vehicle.

Can an enclosed trailer be used as a mobile workshop?

Yes, it is contractors’ favourite use. 80 in or more of interior height, a side door, interior lighting and insulation make work comfortable, and our workshop can install equipment for your trade.

Will my enclosed trailer need an inspection?

In Québec, a trailer with a GVWR of 4,500 kg or more is a heavy vehicle and must pass periodic mechanical inspection, with some exceptions based on use. Several of our 7 to 8.5 ft enclosed trailers come in a version without mandatory inspection: ask us which ones.

What warranty does Ideal Cargo offer?

Ideal Cargo covers the galvanized structure of its EVO CORE trailers against corrosion for life, for the original buyer, and offers a 10-year structural warranty. We give you the full terms at purchase.

What interior height should I choose?

Standard EVO CORE interior height is 74 in on 6 to 7.5 ft wide trailers and 80 in on 8.5 ft trailers. To stand up while working or load tall items, choose an extra-height trailer: several of ours offer 80 or 86 in.

Can I finance an enclosed trailer?

Yes. Martin Remorques works with National Bank of Canada for bank financing and with Crédit-Bail CLÉ for business leasing. We prepare the application with you; the institution approves it and sets the rate.
