Small Stealth trailers at a glance
Stealth is one of the brands of ALCOM, the Winslow, Maine aluminum trailer manufacturer. Its 5 and 6 ft wide enclosed trailer comes in 5 × 8, 5 × 10, 6 × 10 and 6 × 12 ft, on one axle or, in 6 × 12, on two braked axles.
It has a 2 × 3 in integrated aluminum frame, a 24 in V-front with an anodized nose cone, wall studs every 16 in and a leaf-spring axle with a 4 in drop. The 5 × 8 ft weighs 635 lb empty for a 2,990 lb gross vehicle weight rating, and the rear door folds down into a ramp.
5 × 8 or 6 × 12: which small enclosed trailer?
The 5 × 8 ft Ideal Cargo Work Zone is the most compact: 68 in of interior height, a 3,500 lb drop axle, a reinforced frame and alloy wheels. It tows behind a properly equipped car or SUV, backs into a driveway and fits in a garage. It is enough for tools, sports gear, a small move or a shop’s merchandise.
The 6 × 12 ft Sport Zone gives more length and a 2,000 lb ramp door. It has 74 in of interior height, four 5,000 lb floor anchors and two 3,500 lb slipper drop axles: it is the small trailer for ATVs, motorcycles and snowmobiles. If you need even more room, the 7 × 12 ft Work Zone stays easy to handle.
Ramp door or double rear doors?
The Stealth comes with a ramp door. At Ideal Cargo, you choose: the Sport Zone has the ramp door, the Work Zone has double rear doors. The ramp is for anything that rolls, like an ATV, a mower, a motorcycle or a loaded cart. It folds down in one move and becomes the loading floor.
The double doors open the full width without taking up room behind the trailer: handy in a lane, against a dock or in a tight parking spot, and for loading boxes or tools by hand. Both versions keep the side door, flush lock, gutters and side vents.
Does a small trailer need brakes?
In Québec, a trailer needs brakes once its loaded mass exceeds 1,300 kg or half the mass of the towing vehicle. An empty small enclosed trailer is far from that, but a load of materials, an ATV or a snowmobile quickly changes the math, especially behind a car.

What is a small enclosed trailer for?
A 5 or 6 ft wide enclosed trailer tows without a big vehicle, parks in a driveway and stores behind the house. It is enough for tools, sports gear, a small move or a shop’s merchandise, out of the rain and out of sight. It is often a self-employed worker’s first enclosed trailer.
For a vendor at public markets, a photographer or a technician, the 5 × 8 ft Work Zone becomes a small mobile storeroom: load it at night, lock it and leave in the morning. For a motorcycle, ATV or snowmobile, the 6 × 12 ft Sport Zone keeps the vehicle dry and locked. Both keep the R5 insulation, side door and interior lighting of the larger Ideal Cargo trailers.

Can you haul an ATV in a 6 × 12?
Yes, the 6 × 12 ft Sport Zone is made for it: a 2,000 lb ramp door, four 5,000 lb floor anchors to tie the ATV down and an LED dome light for loading at night. Check your ATV’s width with its mirrors before choosing: we measure it with you.
Is a 5 × 8 Ideal Cargo heavy to tow?
It rides on a single 3,500 lb drop axle, and Ideal Cargo says its trailer is about 10% lighter than a conventional enclosed trailer thanks to its aluminum-skinned composite walls. We compare its weight with your vehicle’s capacity before you buy.
