Looking for an MTI Trailers trailer?

MTI can mean MTI Trailers, or Middlebury Trailers, an Indiana maker of steel enclosed cargo trailers sold by dealers across North America. If that is the one you are looking at, see the comparison between MTI Trailers and Ideal Cargo.

In short, the Ideal Cargo does the same job with a galvanized steel structure, warranted for life against corrosion and for 10 years against breakage, aluminum-skinned composite walls and R5 insulation. We have it from 5 × 8 to 8.5 × 16 ft, as a Work Zone, with double rear doors, or a Sport Zone, with a 2,000 lb ramp door.

What type of trailer do you need?

Start with what you haul. An enclosed trailer keeps gear dry and locked; a utility trailer, open and light, serves the yard and the cottage; a dump trailer empties soil, gravel or debris; a flatbed carries machinery, and a tilt trailer loads it without ramps.

At Martin Remorques, each type has its brand: Ideal Cargo for enclosed trailers, Laroche for utility trailers and N&N for dump, flatbed and tilt trailers, all built in Québec. We also order Weberlane trailers, from Ontario, for goosenecks, snowmobiles and ATVs.

Our open N&N and Laroche trailers

N&N Torrent, Torrent HD and Storm dump trailers run from 6 × 12 to 7 × 16 ft, with an 11-gauge steel box, a double-action rear gate and a roll tarp. N&N flatbeds run from 7 × 16 to 7 × 22 ft, and the Lowland and Deck Over Tilt load a machine without ramps.

The Torrents and N&N flatbeds have galvanized axles with electric brakes, LED lighting and VoltFlex low-temperature wiring. Laroche utility trailers are galvanized, with a rear ramp and a triple tongue, from 4 × 8 ft to 66 in × 10 ft, for soil, wood, branches and garden equipment.

Choosing size and capacity

Choose the size for the biggest load you will carry often, not the biggest of the year. A trailer that is too big weighs more, costs more and handles worse; one that is too small means two trips or an overloaded trailer.

Also check your vehicle’s towing capacity. In Québec, a trailer needs brakes once its loaded mass exceeds 1,300 kg or half the mass of the towing vehicle. Our advisors do the math with you, with the trailer weight, the load weight and your vehicle’s capacity.

Comparing two trailers, point by point

To compare an MTI trailer with one of ours, line up the same points: interior size, not just exterior; gross vehicle weight rating and payload; number and capacity of axles, and whether they have brakes; frame material, painted, galvanized or aluminum.

Add the rear door, barn or ramp, the side door, interior height, lighting, insulation and the warranty, with what it covers. A lower price without braked axles or a side door is no saving if you have to add them later. With those figures in hand, the comparison gets simple, and our advisors give you those of every trailer we sell.

Buying your trailer at Martin Remorques
